

I quickly realised the rear tailstock and the cross slide handwheel (which are common castings from the Chinese seig factory) are a real nuisance and suffered with a few drawbacks, particularly when requiring accuracy, speed and drilling larger diameter holes, The entire hand wheel had to be gripped to apply suitable torque.
In addition it was slow and laborious winding the tailstock out for positioning or withdrawing for measurement etc. – …. Life is too short.
A solution
Adaptor plate with twin knobs:
• Relocates the rotating knob to provide additional higher torque for larger drilling tasks.
• Provides an additional mini rotating knob for increased speed to check depths, clear swarf and positioning. The high speed knob is shorter to avoid impeding when using the high torque knob.
• Significantly reduces repetitive strain on the wrist.
• Improves accuracy
Compatibility
Fits hand-wheels of the type in the photo (example Warco WM 280 ) with 100 mm outside diameter 70 mm inside diameter. Note: Most mid ranged Chinese lathes from the Chinese Seig factory ie Chester Warco Clarke Draper etc..are fitted with rear handwheel castings of this type. Emco now listed
In brief:
Either a M8 threaded Rotating knob or M5 for emco. Single machine screw fitting
The rear handwheel must have a flat face for the adaptor to fit flush, Most have.
The Extension Plate is fabricated in 5 mm aluminium.
The kit includes: Extension plate, M8/M5 Securing Machine Screw, (M5 for Emco) Long and Short M8 Rotating Winders, Back locking nuts, M5 Stand offs, and M5 CSK machine screws.
