Mandrel to fit aluminium oxide resin cutting discs. with Torx T8 Key

Discs are useful for cutting and sharpening unfortunately the 402 mandrel is hopeless at holding onto these discs.  To ease this I manufacture/ modify  1/8 inch 3.2 mm adapters to fit a dremel drill or similar to grip the disc. The screw size is a larger M3,  I found the 2 mm screw too small. This modified system far exceeds the endurance of other well known brands.

The mandrel shaft is brazed to an aluminium backing pad and acts as a rigid back support for the disc. I use a high quality dremel 402 mandrel shaft to prevent any vibration or flexing, note: never use cheap mandrels as the screw thread can strip, come loose and/ or the shaft can bend, due to inferior steel being used.

Description

Larger 42 mm Discs 5 in No. in each pack  1 mm thickness ( True measurement with Digital Calipers, most discs are advertised undersized.)

with optional MT3 mandrel which must be used with these discs.

I have now introduced a higher grade Torx screw and grip improvement  Why the Torx screw ?

  • Torx improves torque and disc retention.
  • No cam out with a dedicated T10 wrench key which also fits the Torx drum mandrels.
  • Torx M3 screws are higher tensile strength.
  • The tapered screw head and washer seats the disc against the mandrel reducing slip.
  • Heat shrink now added around the shaft to improve grip. Ideal when changing and replacing pads and discs.

Cutting Discs must be used with the 3mm modified mandrel for stability and security.  Under my own test this system far exceeds the endurance of other well known brands.

These discs are INOX discs for Stainless Steel so are good for other steels.

They are hard wearing unlike the cheaper versions which are useless against hard metals

Must be used at max speed 32,000 RPM to take effect.

In addition cuts perspex sheet, plastic sheet, and plastic pipes without shattering  (Straight cuts only).
